WHO ARE WE?
The Sabi Sand Nature Reserve (SSNR) conserves and promotes a vital part of the Greater
Kruger’s open ecosystem. Committed to sustainable management, SSNR works with
neighboring communities to create meaningful opportunities.
Located on the western boundary of Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga, SSNR borders
villages in Bushbuckridge under the Jongilanga, Mnisi, and Amashangana Traditional
Authorities. Internationally recognized for its conservation efforts, SSNR collaborates with
government, researchers, tech companies, communities, and neighboring reserves to
benefit all stakeholders and the Greater Kruger ecosystem.
Sabi Sand Pfunanani Trust (SSPT), founded in 2017, is the NPO and foundation for SSNR.
Our purpose – conservation and communities partnering for social change. Focused on
social upliftment, SSPT fosters lasting partnerships between conservation and local
communities across the landscape, through a collaborative sustainable development
approach using our Three E’s of impact: Education, Environment & Economic Development.
OBJECTIVE
Sabi Sand Trail Run promotes social development, poverty awareness, and the role of
NPOs in crisis relief. It fosters sports wellness in local communities while bridging the gap
between conservation and communities through biodiversity awareness, resource
management, and habitat preservation. The event supports sustainable community
programs and critical conservation efforts. By hosting a high-quality, ethically governed
trail run, SSTR unites communities, conservation, and and businesses to drive positive
social change through wellness.
GEOGRAPHICAL AREA
